Chicken Slaughterhouse Business Are Not Much Considered Yet

(Bogor, detikFinance)  - Chicken slaughterhouse business until now still has not been much considered by businessmen. In fact, in addition to provide guaranteed hygienic chicken products, chicken slaughterhouse can also be stabilizer over supply prices of domestic chicken.

Chairman of Indonesia Poultry Company (Gappi) Anton Supit said, the existence of slaughterhouse should not only be seen from the side of the business entity but also as the chicken meat price stabilizer due to their ability in producing frozen chicken meat.

On the other hand, Anton continued, strong demand for market-cut chicken meat in Indonesia makes the chicken meat products in particular slaughterhouses’ frozen product has not received public attention.

“Our people prefers to market-slaughtered chickens. In the wet markets, there are microbes and a vacuum period for few hours before it get frozen at home. It was a process of decay before it freezes, unlike the slaughterhouse," Anton said on a duty visit of the Minister of Trade to the Parung slaughterhouse, Bogor, on Wednesday (2/9/2009).

He wishes that ten of thousands of traditional slaughterhouses which are currently operating may consider building into modern slaughterhouses. Furthermore in April 2010 that the DKI administration banned live chicken entering Jakarta unless in the form of meat in order to suppress the spread of bird flu.

"This should be followed by the readiness of the slaughterhouse. So a cooperation-managed slaughterhouse may be necessary," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Poultry Market Information Center (Pinsar) Hartono said the current growth of modern-scale chicken slaughterhouse began to develop though not rapidly. At least this time it was still 22 slaughterhouses in Indonesia.

Currently he said, the contribution of chicken slaughterhouses has reached 15% of the total demand in domestic chicken, or an increase from previous years that only 5%. Although to enter into this sector, he added, need to invest at least U.S. $ 50 per chicken or the total investment to over U.S. $ 20 million.

“Jabodetabek alone needs chicken meat per day up to 1.2 million birds," he said.
